    About

August Wilson’s Fences is playing at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival. This production of the Pulitzer-winning play continues Wilson's Century Cycle, focusing on the Maxson family in 1950s Pittsburgh. It's a key work in American theater, exploring themes of race, opportunity, and the American dream through the story of Troy Maxson, a sanitation worker and former baseball player. The show runs on Sunday, November 8, 2026 at 2:00 PM on the Octagon Stage in Montgomery. This intimate venue at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival is well-suited for the dialogue-driven nature of Wilson's work, allowing audiences to connect closely with the characters. It's a good fit for anyone interested in classic American drama or powerful storytelling.
