August Wilson's Seven Guitars

August Wilson's Seven Guitars returns to New York, offering a look into the lives of seven characters in 1948 Pittsburgh. The play centers on Floyd "Schoolboy" Barton, a blues musician, as he tries to make a fresh start after a stint in jail. It's a key work from Wilson's American Century Cycle, exploring themes of hope, despair, and the pursuit of the American dream through his distinct voice. This production of Seven Guitars runs at Lincoln Center's Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater on Friday, November 20, 2026. The Newhouse is an intimate space, well-suited for the dialogue-driven nature of Wilson's work. It's a good evening out for anyone interested in American theater, historical dramas, or the blues.
