Jazz vocalist Lena Seikaly brings warmth, sophistication and a deep command of the jazz tradition to the Pocahontas County Opera House.

A fixture of the Washington, D.C., jazz scene for more than 15 years, Seikaly has built a career that bridges traditional jazz vocals and contemporary interpretation. Her credits include appearances at the Kennedy Center, Blues Alley, Strathmore, Jazz at Lincoln Center Shanghai and West Virginia Public Radio’s “Mountain Stage.” She was also a semifinalist in the 2015 Thelonious Monk Institute International Jazz Vocals Competition.

Seikaly’s classical vocal training gives her remarkable control, but her approach to jazz is built around phrasing, interpretation and improvisation. In the right room, the singer, band and audience trade attention back and forth until the performance begins to feel like a conversation.

The intimate Opera House setting offers exactly the kind of room where those subtleties can flourish.
