Home Bicycle Repair & Tune-Up Workshop
Want to become more confident working on your own bike?
This two-day, hands-on workshop will teach you the essential skills and techniques needed to maintain, troubleshoot, and perform common repairs on your bicycle. This isn't a class where you simply watch a mechanic work. You'll get your hands dirty and do the work yourself, with step-by-step guidance from an experienced professional bicycle mechanic.
With a maximum of just two students, you'll receive plenty of individual instruction and have lots of time to ask questions and focus on the areas that interest you most.
What You'll Learn
We'll work through a bicycle from top to bottom, learning how its major systems work, how to properly maintain them, and how to diagnose common problems.
Topics include:
- Tools and basic bicycle mechanics
- General bicycle inspection and troubleshooting
- Tires and tubes
- Chains
- Cassettes
- Hubs
- Minor wheel truing
- Cranksets
- Derailleur systems
- Brake systems
- Stems and handlebars
- Headsets
Hands-On Work
Whenever possible, you'll work on your own bicycle, giving you the opportunity to learn about the specific bike you actually ride. During the workshop, you'll completely disassemble, clean, inspect, and reassemble your bicycle as well as replace the shift cables and housing.
What's Included
- A complete tune-up of your bicycle (by you!) — $149 value
- New shift cables and housing — up to $80 value
- Park Tool's Big Blue Book of Bicycle Repair — $33 value
- Two full days of hands-on instruction
- Use of professional bicycle repair tools and shop equipment
Who Is This Class For?
No previous bicycle repair experience is required. This workshop is designed for cyclists who want to become more self-sufficient with bicycle maintenance and repair, whether you're a newer cyclist who wants to understand your bike or an experienced rider who wants to learn more about bicycle mechanics.
