Pismo Beach Swings! An Unforgettable Sunday of Jazz with St. Johns Riverboat Jazz Band & The Riverboat Rustlers!

Celebrate 50 years of swinging jazz as the Basin Street Regulars Jazz Collective keeps its monumental golden anniversary season rolling on the Central Coast! On Sunday, September 27th, we are bringing two generations of hot traditional jazz from the Central Valley straight to the Pismo Beach stage.

Whether you come to swing out on our massive wooden floor, listen to world-class brass, or sit in during the morning jam, this is an afternoon you will not want to miss

Feature band St. John’s Riverboat Jazz Band comes to us from Visalia, California. Formed in 1996 when dedicated student musicians from College of the Sequoias chose to keep playing after their jazz class was cancelled, this high-spirited ensemble has spent the last 29 years putting their own energetic spin on upbeat traditional and Dixieland standards. Founding members Frank Cardoza, Jason Hughes, and Mario Marquez lead the group with decades of tight chemistry, joyful rhythm, and authentic New Orleans flair. 

Taking the stage for intermission is The Riverboat Rustlers, an exciting new traditional jazz outfit from Fresno and Clovis. Composed of talented freshmen who have already played in county and All-State honor bands, these rising young musicians are on a mission to entertain and learn the craft. Mentored by the Joe Lenigan Big Band and St. John’s Riverboat Jazz Band, they showcase the living future of hot jazz.

Dust off your dancing shoes for our BIG WOODEN DANCE FLOOR. Fresh food and cold drinks will be available on-site to keep you moving and refreshed all afternoon.

• 11:00 AM – Open Jam Session: Grab your horn or sticks and join in the fun! Jammers pay just $5 at the door to sit in with fellow musicians.
•  12:30 PM – 4:00 PM – The Main Concert: High-energy Dixieland, traditional jazz, and dance rhythms.
