A Milestone Golden Anniversary for Central Coast Jazz

For 50 incredible years (1976–2026), the Basin Street Regulars Hot Jazz Society has stood as the rhythmic heartbeat of live traditional music on California’s Central Coast. As a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, the club funds and produces the entire multi-venue Jazz Jubilee Central Coast, dedicated to preserving America’s true original art form, supporting youth music education, and keeping the spirit of swing alive for future generations.

Whether you are a lifelong traditional jazz devotee or stepping into the jazz scene for the very first time, this Sunday showcase brings the high-energy, feel-good, foot-tapping joy that makes live jazz unforgettable.

The Pismo Beach Veterans Hall boasts a spacious wooden dance floor! Lindy Hoppers, Balboa enthusiasts, East Coast Swingers, and casual dancers alike will find irresistible tempos, driving basslines, and brass riffs designed to keep the floor moving all afternoon.

Featured Spotlight: The Blue Street Jazz Band
Celebrating over four decades on the national jazz circuit, the Blue Street Jazz Band is celebrated for its fearless arrangements, infectious humor, and electrifying stage presence. Originally founded in 1983, the band is led by world-class trombonist and arranger Dave Ruffner.

Dave Ruffner (Leader & Trombone): A powerhouse performer and composer who plays regular sets on legendary Bourbon Street in New Orleans. Ruffner brings authentic French Quarter heat, driving trombone tailgates, and dynamic stage energy.
Vocal Brilliance: Featuring the expressive vocals of Dr. Sherri Colby-Bottel, delivering everything from sweet swing standards to soulful gospel and vintage blues.
Versatility in Motion: Blue Street’s repertoire effortlessly spans the music of Kid Ory, Sidney Bechet, and Louis Armstrong, alongside Latin jazz, Mardi Gras stomps, and classic swing.

Special Guest: Hall of Fame Pianist Carl Sonny Leyland
Joining Blue Street on piano and vocals is international sensation Carl Sonny Leyland.

Boogie-Woogie Royalty: Inducted into the Boogie Woogie Hall of Fame in 2010, Leyland is renowned worldwide for his spontaneous, lightning-fast left-hand rhythms and mastery of 1920s stride, ragtime, and vintage barrelhouse blues.
Local & Global Legend: A favorite on festival stages across Europe and the Americas, as well as a host on local KCBX radio, Leyland’s interplay with Dave Ruffner and Blue Street will create an explosive musical highlight you must witness live.

Co-Headliner: High Sierra Reunion Jazz Band
Sharing the Sunday stage is the legendary High Sierra Reunion Jazz Band, led by celebrated clarinet and soprano sax virtuoso Pieter Meijers. Active globally for 42 years with 25 recorded albums, this reunion ensemble brings together all-star masters:
