Since the mid-90’s Southside has been fusing their hip-hop roots with a punk rock ethos and the sounds of indie rock. Southside began by twisting Flaming Lips and Danzing songs into a hip-hop beats and recording a series of mix-tapes for their college friends. Although the members of Southside did time in various indie rock bands, they always returned to their hip-hop roots and the number of mix-tapes grew. Over the years the group has evolved to include a revolving cast of supporting characters. Their current line-up sways from the classic two emcee’s and a DJ to including a guitarist and rhythm section. Whatever it takes to move the crowd. Currently residing in Seattle, Southside has played showcases in the South by Southwest, Northwest Musicfest and the Seattle Weekly Reverbfest music festivals as well as playing regularly throughout the northwest with such notable acts as Naughty By Nature, Brother Ali, JFK (Rhymesayers) and many more dating back to their earliest days opening for Flaming Lips and Guided by Voices.
