Randy McSpadden grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma where he started his lifelong quest of the guitar at the
age of 6. Influenced equally by the Beatles and Bob Wills he began playing in bands as a teen. In the
late 70’s after hearing Clarence White he began playing bluegrass. On the first trip to the Walnut
Valley Festival in Winfield, Kansas in 1981 he was able to catch a live set by the Dave Grisman
Quintet which proved to be pivotal in his musical direction.
In the early 90’s he played in the Tulsa based Bluegrass Band “A Grain of Salt” performing in local and
regional venues and festivals. His bands “St Elmer’s Fire” and “From the Top” continued his quest of
combining his jazz background with bluegrass and new acoustic music.
Since moving to Denver in the fall of 2011, he has free-lanced in both the bluegrass/ acoustic music
scene as well as the vibrant jazz scene on the Front Range. He was a member of the band Silverplume
and has performed with Miss Amy & the Jet Set, Liz Masterson, Kantankerous, Backwoods Galaxy,
The Nick Amodeo Trio, The Stanleytones, ACME Bluegrass, & many other Front Range ensembles.
In addition to performing, he teaches intermediate and advanced level guitar students privately &
provides band coaching.
Joining Randy will be 2023 Rockygrass Banjo Competition finalist Corey Clark and veteran Denver
Bassist and Fiddler Chuck Onofrio. We may also have a special guest or two.
