To meditate is to be in the present moment, which is similar to the contemplative process of looking at art. In collaboration with Mindful Heart Programs, MCASB is offering weekly seated meditation sessions in the galleries. Guided by Radhule Weininger, MD, PhD, focus on your breath and become aware of your body, emotions, thoughts, and the nature of the mind itself. In return, mindful awareness may lead to a new personal approach to experiencing art.

No experience necessary and open to everyone. Chairs and meditation cushions provided. Dress appropriately for a climate controlled gallery environment.

Radhule Weininger, MD, Ph.D., clinical psychologist, and teacher of meditation and applied mindfulness practice, had been the resident teacher of mindfulness practice at the La Casa de Maria Retreat Center for 17 years. Radhule is mentored by Jack Kornfield in her teaching and by Joanna Macy in her interest in Engaged Buddhism. With her husband Michael Kearney, MD, she founded the non-profit Mindful Heart Programs, and directs Kind MindSB, a program that provides mindfulness meditation in several Santa Barbara schools. Besides regular weekly meditation groups, she organizes the Solidarity and Compassion town hall meeting. Heartwork: The Path of Self-compassion, with a foreword by Jack Kornfield, was published in 2017.
