The French Chef in America: Julia Child's Second Act

A complimentary discussion and book signing with Julia's Great-Nephew, author Alex Prud'homme

Join Author and Julia Child’s great-nephew Alex Prud’homme for a lively conversation about Julia’s second act and his latest book, The French Chef in America. A reading from the book will be followed by an audience Q&A and book signing.

The French Chef in America by Alex Prud’homme (Knopf, 2016)
In 2006 Alex Prud’homme co-wrote Julia Child’s memoir, My Life in France, which inspired half of the film “Julie & Julia.” Now, ten years later, he has written a follow-up, The French Chef in America: Julia Child’s Second Act.  While Julia’s memoir covered her self-discovery in Paris in the early 1950s, The French Chef in America looks at how she became America’s first celebrity chef in the 1960s and 70s, with groundbreaking cookbooks and her hit TV show “The French Chef.” Then, in the spirit of that rebellious time, Julia broke with classical cuisine to embrace her American roots, used recipes from around the world, grew outspoken and controversial, was spoofed by Dan Aykroyd on SNL, and reached the height of her success -- while contending with some of her darkest moments in private. The story of Julia’s “second act” is just as inspiring as her first.

Books will be available for purchase.

About

Join us April 7-9, 2017 for the 4thd Annual Santa Barbara Food & Wine Weekend - three days celebrating Julia Child’s lifelong love of eating well and Santa Barbara’s coastal bounty. The event weekend's beneficiary, The Julia Child Foundation for Gastronomy and the Culinary Arts, was created by Julia in 1995 to continue to advance matters she valued. The Foundation’s mission is to honor and further Julia’s legacy, which centers on the importance of understanding where food comes from, what makes for good food, and the value of cooking. Headquartered in Santa Barbara, California, the Foundation is a grant-making, non-profit which primarily funds research and scholarships for professional culinary training as well as other activities in the fields of gastronomy and the culinary arts.
