MOONSHINER COLLECTIVE

Moonshiner Collective is the San Luis Obispo, California based musical project of multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriter Dan Curcio, drawing from a diverse range of folk, rock, and Americana influences. The name was derived from the experiences Curcio had playing music under the moon and stars with friends while living in a yurt overlooking the Pacific Ocean in the small California beach town of Cayucos. Nestled up on a vast hillside, it was a place to share songs, stories, food, and drink with musicians and travelers who were passing through town and needing a place to camp out for the night. The powerful communal vibe and spirit of the yurt property jam sessions gave Curcio the desire to create a musical project that could draw from a wide variety of talents and inspirations and continually evolve while being rooted in his uniquely soulful and upbeat brand of folk rock music. Curcio records and performs with a diverse lineup of talented musicians, most notably the Cimo Brothers, and members of his former band Still Time. Although he often performs solo with a one man band style set up featuring foot percussion and a bunch of of different instruments, his live performances are all about the ‘collective’ which is as much referring to the varied lineup of musical collaborators who join him on stage and in the studio as it is the friends and fans of the music who come out to sing and dance at the shows.

A huge fan of variety in music, Curcio’s goal is for each song, live performance, and album he puts out to have its own distinct sound and style and tell a story all its own. While the instrumentation, styles, and sounds continually evolve, Moonshiner Collective songs have always been centered around family, love, optimism, nature, and the power of community with Curcio’s distinctively warm and soulful voice and introspective lyrics as the unifying thread. The live show experience at a Moonshiner Collective show is intended to feel like the best campfire jam session you’ve ever been a part of with musicians, both planned and unplanned, joining Curcio on stage for multiple songs and the crowd singing and dancing along. The music’s unifying positivity bridges gaps in generations and genres with a sound and message that combines good time music with a passionate depth.

Moonshiner Collective has performed for thousands at festivals and venues across the country and has shared the stage with many of Curcio’s musical heroes including Ben Harper, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Jason Mraz, G. Love and the Special Sauce, Ziggy Marley, Robert Randolph & The Family Band, Needtobreathe, One Republic, Steel Pulse, UB40, Jackie Greene, David Lindley, Suitcase Junket, Zach Deputy, and many more.

Moonshiner Collective will be touring throughout the west coast and beyond in 2017 and is constantly releasing new songs and videos through Curcio’s own label When It Hits Records. He will continue trying to spread love, positivity, and community through his music and message and hopes that you and your family and friends will be a part of this lively and soulful experience at a concert soon.
