Carnaval is celebrated each spring around the world, including parts of Mexico, and Carnaval celebrations in Mexico are some of the most exuberant you'll find anywhere. It is a colorful and uninhibited celebration, an opportunity to express joy, have fun, eat and drink in excess, and party until dawn. It is celebrated in many places in the Catholic world in preparation for the solemnity of Lent. The unrestrained celebration allows people to get all the craziness out of their systems so they'll be ready for the sobriety and temperance that characterizes the Lenten season.
In celebration of Carnaval week, we invite you to join us in our taproom to imbibe with one of our Mexican Cervezas and decorate your very own mask! From February 28th - March 5th, we will have blank Carnaval masks and art materials for our guests to paint and color. $10 gets you a beer, a mask, and all the art supplies to decorate with!
The masks associated with Carnaval are worn during the festival as a device for hiding the wearer's identity; the disguise permits the wearer to act more freely to celebrate indulgence and intemperance.
