Angelo Lozada:
Housed at the famed Nuyorican Poet’s Café for twelve years, his acclaimed comedy troupe, Nuyorican Rule appeared in Showtime at the Apollo and veteran comic Robert Klein’s New Joke City. As co-founder and head writer, Lozada wrote and performed about urban experiences, challenging race, class and gender stereotypes through comedy. This revolutionary comedy troupe has inspired numerous other urban comedy troupes and is often recalled and invited to return to large and small stages.
In addition, Lozada has numerous writing credits on different media, including animation, digital, print and commercial. Lozada has been a head writer on the animated series, Lugar Heights, featured on Galavision, MTV3, MUN2, MTV3, a head writer for comedynet.com, and monthly columnist focusing on Latina/o culture for the New York Daily News. He has also found commercial success in head writing for a national advertisement campaign for Burger King.
His acting experiences include both theatre and film. In 2009, Lozada was invited and accepted to perform in the New York Stage and Film’s production of A Shoe Story, written by acclaimed New York City Hip Hop Theater writer/artist Ben Snyder and directed by In the Heights’ Tommy Kail. His film appearances have included Destination Unknown, Arrangement, The Start-up, and Blind Leading the Blind, one of the 2007 New York City’s Latino International Festival’s featured short films.
Proud to perform in English and Spanish, Lozada enjoys using his Puerto Rican heritage to unite folks of all backgrounds to understand the human experience through laughter.
