Hayden James may have only released his first track in late June 2013, but he has already amassed a million plays across Soundcloud and Youtube for his work. Producing immense summer jams with soulful and evocative vocals his music has stockpiled consistently rave reviews from the US, Europe and Australia alike, being labelled the "face of the new Australian production music scene". Hayden's first single "Permission to Love" garnered worldwide love and attention hitting #1 most blogged on Hype Machine, as well as becoming the most played track on national broadcasting giant Triple J in Australia. It is early days for his debut EP which only dropped at the end of August on tastemaker label Future Classic, but if the initial reaction is anything to go by things are only on the up for Hayden James. Catch him over summer in Australia as he delivers his much anticipated live show to festivals, as well as debut tours in the US and UK.
London based artist Elderbrook is the latest individual to make a mark on music with his down-tempo hip-hop inspired tracks.
The 20-year-old who plays guitar, bass, piano and drums started developing his production skills while studying at Bath Spa University. In his dorm room Elderbrook, real name Alex Kotz, began experimenting with movie samples and using his voice to add a bounce to his demos. 'I started creating hip hop beats and singing over them until it evolved into more of an electronic sound. I keep it minimal – when a song is broken down it leaves more room for intricacies which can be fun'.
As he honed in on his production skills the artists he grew up listening to started to become an influence in his music also. 'My inspirations come from Jazz vocalists like Sam Cooke and Billie Holiday as well as people like Blaze Foley and Woody Guthrie'. Since using these jazz influences to cultivate his signature trip-hop sound Elderbrook has done remixes for Amber Run, Bipolar Sunshine, London Grammar and more.
Now signed to Black Butter, the young artist begins work on his debut EP due out later this year. Having worked with Wayward, Bless Beats, Karma Kid and more the final product shall no doubt cement Elderbrook as a sure one to watch.
