THE WURST FESTIVAL - SEPTEMBER 18 - 20.

A Culinary Event to support the Chicago Music Summit

Chicago, IL – Chicago’s Wurst Festival is a culinary celebration of local and sustainable artisan sausage, craft beer and wine, and Chicago music. While there are several Oktoberfest and fall festivals that take place in September they are not culinary events, nor do they showcase local sausage makers who utilize naturally pastured, sustainably raised meat from local farms. This is sausage made the old fashioned way. The City of Chicago’s Farmers Market Program has partnered with Red Meat Market and Family Farmed to host this three day Wurst Festival at Daley Plaza September 18-20, from 10am - 8pm.

The Wurst Festival at Daley Plaza will also serve as an outdoor showcase for the City of Chicago’s very first Chicago Music Summit on Friday, September 20th at the Chicago Cultural Center (78 E. Washington St.). The Chicago Music Summit is a new local music conference presented by the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events to shine a spotlight on Chicago’s innovative and thriving music scene and connect professionals with local and national industry leaders. Chicago Music Summit musicians will perform live on the main Wurst Festival stage throughout the day featuring such local acts as Psalm One, Ari Brown and Matthew Skoller. Customers can enjoy tasty locally pastured bratwurst, a cold craft beer and the best new local music Chicago has to offer. Admission is free.

In addition to having local sausage and craft beer and wine, many local providers will be on hand to sell sauerkraut, breads and frozen sausages and locally pastured meats to take home. The Wurst Festival main stage will also showcase chefs, butchers, sausage makers and other guest speakers throughout the day. Bands from the Music Summit will be performing from 12n-1pm (Th-Fr) and 5-7pm each day! There will even be a battle of the matching bands on Friday from 1-3pm!

“Today, the art of sausage making is having a rebirth and Chicago has some of the best butchers and sausage makers in the world. The Wurst Festival is their chance in the spotlight and display their talents, sell their products and share the goodness of the old world tradition of locally pastured, hand-crafted, artisan sausage making”, said Mark Wilhelms, Founder of The Wurst Festival and Red Meat Market.
